What Makes Green Prefab Homes Green?

The attention paid to being more environmentally friendly has not escaped the notice of manufacturers around the world.  Today, it seems like you can buy almost anything “green,” from dish detergent to clothing, from ground beef to homes.  Still, what does green actually mean?  Unfortunately, many of these products simply have an appealing label, and there is really no eco-friendliness to them.  However, green prefab homes are something different.

How are prefab homes green, though?  First, they reduce the amount of lumber wasted during the construction process.  In a traditional construction environment, every cut to a piece of lumber produces some waste.  After all, the remainder of the piece is usually not suitable for use in any other part of the project.  Therefore, it’s tossed aside as scrap and goes to waste.  This is not the case with prebuilt homes, as all remainders can be used in some other project.

Another way that prefab homes are green is that they are manufactured with a considerable amount of recycled or recyclable material.  This reduces the impact of the housing industry on the environment to a considerable extent, without cutting down on the quality of the finished product.  In fact, prebuilt homes are often studier and longer lasting than their site-built counterparts are.

Green prefab homes are good investments, but they also offer homeowners with a DIY turn of mind some benefits.  This is because a homeowner with a few friends can easily construct the home on their own, without having to hire a contractor to supply the labor.  As the home is delivered to the site in several sections, it takes very little effort to move those sections into place, attach them and then get the roof up and protect the interior of the home from the elements.

Understanding Your Options in Prefab Modern Housing

Friday, July 9th, 2010

Home construction might not seem like it has changed much in the last 50 years or so.  While there have been advancements made in insulation and in some types of construction materials, most homes are still stick-built on site.  However, prefab modern housing offers some significant advantages over doing things this way.  Why should you consider prefabricated housing?  What does it offer you in terms of benefits?

First, you will find that prefab home kits are available in a wide variety of existing designs.  This allows you to choose a home that looks different from the ones in your neighborhood.  Of course, you can also have a prefabricated kit custom designed to your own specifications.  This gives you all the advantages of a custom built home, without the drawbacks found when working with a traditional contractor or waiting for regular construction to be complete.

Another advantage found when dealing with prefab modern housing is the fact that you will be able to enjoy a much faster construction time.  Traditional stick-built homes can take months to build.  However, with a prefabricated home kit, even one custom designed for you, it will take only a fraction of the time.  This is because walls and other structural components arrive already made, in sections.  This allows you or your contractor to simply move the sections into place, attach them to the floor and get on with construction.  There’s nothing simpler.

Prefab modern housing is also made with green materials and construction methods.  This ensures that your home is environmentally friendly and that it was created through means that did not damage the environment.  As the impact of human industry on the world grows, anything you can do to reduce that impact is a good thing.  When those things equate to a beautiful new home, it’s a win-win situation.

The Advent of the Modern Pre Fab House

Friday, July 9th, 2010

One upon a time, the prefab house meant little more than a mobile home, or what is still referred to as a “trailer.”  However, things have changed with time.  Today, the pre fab house is something very different.  What has changed in the industry?  How are prefabricated homes different today?

You might think of prefabricated homes as referring to manufactured housing.  These are regular homes, but they are built in a factory and shipped to your lot in pieces.  You might have seen some of these pieces being moved down the highway at one point or another.  However, this is far from the only meaning of prefabricated housing.

Currently, one of the better options if you want to find out what a pre fab house might offer you is to work with a company that manufactures prefabricated housing kits.  These kits can be found in almost any type of design, including cabins, cottages and “regular” homes.  Why are kits the best way to go, though?

First, kits are very different from the aforementioned prefabricated homes.  The kit arrives at your lot in sections, rather than as fully constructed pieces of the home.  This allows you to easily build the home on your own, or with the help of a contractor.  In addition, because the home arrives in sections (wall sections, flooring sections, etc), you are able to reduce the time required for construction.

A pre fab house can be an excellent option, particularly if you want a custom home, and have a DIY frame of mind.  However, they can also be excellent options for those who just want to get their home constructed through an environmentally sound method, with as little time wasted as possible.  Prefabrication might just be the best option for your needs.

Prefab House Prices Save You Money

Friday, July 9th, 2010

Building a home is not exactly something that most people equate with affordability.  Hiring a contractor, paying for labor and the construction materials themselves can all cost a considerable amount of money.  However, it does not need to be this way.  For instance, prefab house prices can save you a ton of money over what you will pay for traditional home construction.

How, exactly, are prebuilt homes able to save you so much money?  They do this through a variety of different ways.  For instance, you will save money on construction materials.  Prebuilt homes are assembled in sections in a factory.  Therefore, only the lumber that actually goes into the construction of your home is paid for.  The left over lumber is used in other construction projects, rather than being taken to a landfill or burned as scraps.  This cuts down on construction costs.

Another way that prefab house prices will help you save in the end is in the time required to complete construction.  For example, a traditional home might take several months to build, since each wall has to be assembled by hand, before the roof can begin being built.  With a prebuilt home, however, the walls are already assembled.  You simply move them in and attach them to the structure.  This means that you can get all of the home under the roof as quickly as possible, and out of the weather.

Prefab home prices are very reasonable and you will actually find that you save more money than you might think.  When compared to the costs of a traditional home, prefab prices are down right cheap.  Of course, you don’t sacrifice quality for that affordability, as all home components are made to exacting standards that even some general contractors cannot match.

Prefab Green Housing and You

Friday, July 9th, 2010

The environment has certainly been in the news lately.  With the increased rate of water and soil pollution, the rising awareness of global warming and the increasing realization that fossil fuels will not be able to last forever, more and more people are looking for ways to do things in a more eco-friendly manner.  One interesting option is that of prefab green housing.  What is this option?  How might it be of benefit to you?

Prefabricated homes are nothing new.  They’ve been around in one form or another for decades.  However, it is important that you realize prefab green housing is very different from other forms of prefabricated housing.  This type of system allows you to build your own home (or hire a contractor to do it for you), without the need for highly skilled labor and without the usual timeframe required for construction.

One interesting way that prefabricated housing options benefit the environment is in the reduction of waste material.  For instance, in a traditional home construction project, a considerable amount of scrap lumber is generated.  This lumber is usually burned or taken to the nearest landfill.  However, with prefabricated kits, there is no waste.  This is because prefab green housing kits are put together in large sections in a factory setting.  The leftovers can then be worked into another project, reducing the amount of lumber used considerably.

Prefabricated green homes are also beneficial in other ways.  There are no packaging materials left over from the shipping process.  Since sections of the walls and other structural components are shipped directly to the site, there is far less garbage generated from the unloading and unpacking process. Obviously, prefab green housing is a beneficial thing and offers homebuilders some considerable advantages over traditional building methods, including saving time and money.

Options to Build Your Own House

Friday, July 9th, 2010

If you are like many people, the dream of living in a home that you designed and built yourself is very appealing.  As more and more people become dissatisfied with the “cookie-cutter” housing industry, more and more are seeking the means to build their own home.  If you want to build your own house, you have any number of options out there today.

First, you can certainly contact a contractor who will help you build your home.  These professionals will listen to your desires and will then design a home based on those desires.  However, this can take a considerable amount of time.  Stick-built homes are not easy to construct onsite, particularly if you have a home site picked out that is out of the way and difficult to access.  A better option might be to check out your options for prefabricated home kits.

How can you build your own house with a prefab kit?  Simply put, you will be able to find a company that offers several different types of kits, from cottages to cabins and even full “standard” homes.  These kits come partially assembled, with wall sections already put together, as well as other major structural components put together.  Once the sections arrive on your lot, all that has to be done is to put them together.  This can be done with the help of a contractor and his or her team, but it can also be done by the average homeowner with a little bit of help.

You can build your own home and gain the custom design that you want with a manufacturer of prefabricated home kits that listens to you.  It’s a simple process to design a custom kit to your satisfaction, and even simpler to get it erected.

New Homes Prefabricated to Your Specifications

Friday, July 9th, 2010

Are you in the market for a new home?  If so, then chances are good that you have been making the rounds and looking at existing homes for sale.  You might have even considered the price of custom built new homes.  Prefabricated homes may be a better choice for your needs, though.  Why is this?  How can prefabricated homes compare to site-built homes in terms of price and quality?  Actually, you might be surprised at some of the answers.

There are several ways that prefab homes outrank standard stick-built homes.  Prefabricated homes offer a much shorter construction time than a normal home.  This is because the wall sections arrive preassembled.  Preassembly means that you or your contractor can skip the time consuming process of cutting lumber and building each wall by hand.  All you have to do is move the wall into position and attach it.  Then you can move on to the next.  The work of several weeks can be accomplished in just a couple of days this way.

Why is it important that you are able to save time with these homes?  Prefabricated homes help ensure that you are able to get the roof up as soon as possible.  This keeps all of the other lumber out of the blistering sun and soaking rain, ensuring that it does not warp or shrink.  Water and sun damage can really do a number on wood, so it makes sense to get it under cover as quickly as possible.

Another reason that homes prefabricated to your specifications are a good investment is that they are made with green methods, from recycled or recyclable materials.  This helps you benefit the environment, while still getting the home that you want.  Green prefab homes are also longer lived than many stick-built homes, thanks to the greater precision with which the components are put together.

Making Sense of Prebuilt House Kits

Friday, July 9th, 2010

In the world of home building, chances are good that you have heard little of any options other than traditional stick-built homes.  However, prebuilt house kits can be an excellent option for many people.  What do these kits offer you?  What sorts of kits are available?

First, you need to find a company that offers innovative, high quality, green products.  This ensures that you are able to get the most for your money.  The right company will also offer you a variety of different house kits from which to choose.  You might decide that you want a cottage style home, or you might opt for a cabin design, instead.  Of course, traditional home style kits are also available from these manufacturers.

Second, you will find that prebuilt house kits are also capable of delivering other benefits to you.  Namely, they offer savings in time and money.  Usually, building a home is an incredibly expensive process.  It also takes a very long time and requires that you hire a skilled contractor with experienced employees.  However, with green home kits, you can actually do all the construction work on your own, with just a few basic tools.

This is because the kits are shipped directly to your location in sections, rather than as bundled lumber and separate building materials.  Walls arrive prebuilt to your specifications, and the roof trusses arrive with the load, as well.  This means that you can get started putting your home together as soon as the foundation is set and the flooring substructure is in place.

Choosing to go with a manufacture of prebuilt house kits is an excellent idea and will help ensure that you are able to save money on your home construction, without sacrificing quality or style in your finished home.

Is Prefab Housing Right for You?

Friday, July 9th, 2010

Are you considering building a new home?  Perhaps you’re interested in adding onto your existing home.  If so, then you probably have contacted some local contractors to get an estimate on the work performed.  Chances are good that those estimates included a timeframe of at least a few weeks, but possibly even months.  Prefab housing can help you get around this delay.  How might this work?

Prefabricated housing components are relatively new options on the market.  The term prefab probably brings to mind images of mobile homes or manufactured homes built in a factory and then moved onto your lot.  Prefab housing is nothing like this.  Actually, what this form of housing offers is a considerable amount of savings in terms of time required for construction.  How much time can you save?

Ordinarily, when a home is built (or an addition is made), the foundation and the subfloors are the first things laid down.  After that, it becomes a process of building walls (stick-built is the term).  This can be very time consuming, as contractors must build each individual wall and then install it.  Prefab housing components circumvent the building portion for each wall.  Prefabricated wall sections are available, which are easily moved and put in place.  This reduces the amount of time required to complete construction by an amazing amount.

If you are interested in checking out your options for prefabricated housing components, make sure you check out an industry-leading manufacturer.  They should use green components and construction techniques, and should offer you several wall panel sizes.  In addition, determine whether the supplier offers an entire prefab housing kit, or if they only offer wall sections.  Full kits are a better investment for your needs, and will save even more time on the construction.

Is Prebuilt Housing A Good Option for Your Home?

Friday, July 9th, 2010

Are you looking for a new home?  If so, then you might want to reconsider buying a cookie-cutter home in a subdivision.  Perhaps you are looking to add onto your home.  If so, there are better ways than hiring a standard contractor and then waiting for months for the project to be completed.  Prebuilt housing is a unique new option that offers homeowners and builders a number of significant advantages.  Is this choice right for your needs?

What should you know about prebuilt homes?  First, you will find that they are far more easily constructed than a traditional site built home.  Usually, the construction process is quite expensive, requires skilled labor and takes an enormous amount of time.  This is because every aspect of the home must be constructed on site, from different pieces of lumber.  However, prebuilt housing allows you to get around this problem.

This works because the manufacturer supplies prebuilt wall sections that are easily moved.  Once on the lot, the sections can be moved onto the floor and installed in just a few minutes.  Contrast this with the time-consuming process involved with building a home in the traditional way.

Simply building one wall section can take hours.  This adds up to a considerable amount of time over the course of construction.  In addition, when you make use of prebuilt home sections, you are able to get everything under a roof far more quickly, helping to prevent premature weathering, warping and other problems that can be caused by exposure.

Prebuilt housing options are great options for homeowners who want to build their home on their own, as well.  Because the sections arrive fully constructed, there is no need for in-depth construction knowledge.  The average homeowner can build their own home with a few friends or family members.
