One upon a time, the prefab house meant little more than a mobile home, or what is still referred to as a “trailer.”  However, things have changed with time.  Today, the pre fab house is something very different.  What has changed in the industry?  How are prefabricated homes different today?

You might think of prefabricated homes as referring to manufactured housing.  These are regular homes, but they are built in a factory and shipped to your lot in pieces.  You might have seen some of these pieces being moved down the highway at one point or another.  However, this is far from the only meaning of prefabricated housing.

Currently, one of the better options if you want to find out what a pre fab house might offer you is to work with a company that manufactures prefabricated housing kits.  These kits can be found in almost any type of design, including cabins, cottages and “regular” homes.  Why are kits the best way to go, though?

First, kits are very different from the aforementioned prefabricated homes.  The kit arrives at your lot in sections, rather than as fully constructed pieces of the home.  This allows you to easily build the home on your own, or with the help of a contractor.  In addition, because the home arrives in sections (wall sections, flooring sections, etc), you are able to reduce the time required for construction.

A pre fab house can be an excellent option, particularly if you want a custom home, and have a DIY frame of mind.  However, they can also be excellent options for those who just want to get their home constructed through an environmentally sound method, with as little time wasted as possible.  Prefabrication might just be the best option for your needs.
