Is a Pre Fab House a Good Option?

Sunday, August 1st, 2010

A pre fab house is one of the many options available to new homeowners. Among the entire range of options are building to suit, buying a standing home and constructing your own home from scratch. The latter option, of course, is only realistic for those with high-level carpentry skills. Buying a standing home is only suitable for those who aren’t looking for new housing, of course, and there is always the gamble that problems will manifest with the home soon after the purchase that could not have been caught by an inspector or an appraiser.

A pre fab house can be bought in a much wider variety of designs than was the case even a decade ago. Because people are looking for efficient, affordable ways to get into a new house, this option is increasingly popular. That popularity translates to more designs being developed and, thus, a wider range of options for those who want something that they can call their own without reinventing the wheel at every step of the construction process. In the case of a pre fab house, the construction process is a very efficient one.

Prefabricated houses are made in workspaces that are sheltered from the elements. This means that the raw materials that make up the house aren’t subjected to the elements and that there aren’t unknown variables at play with the quality of those materials. When a house is built in this way, it also means that the structure is designed in a way that comes from years of experience and that all the parts fit together exactly as intended, every time. This reliability is one of the most compelling of a host of reasons to consider going prefabricated with a new home.

How is Prebuilt Housing Constructed?

Sunday, August 1st, 2010

When the prebuilt parts of your home arrive on the truck, they’ll have already taken quite a journey. Prebuilt housing is put together like no other type of housing on the market. The process is remarkably efficient and, because the elements are designed to fit together with no modifications by the user, they can be erected by anyone with basic carpentry skills. A prebuilt home starts with a plan that has been designed, modified, revised and perfected to the point that there is a great deal of consistency from the start.

In the factory where prebuilt housing is constructed, master carpenters do the hard work of putting the elements together. The materials are ordered in the exact quantities needed. This is possible because the designs have been used more than once, so the exact amount of lumber and other materials needed for each wall, floor or any other window are already known. The elimination of the waste that usually accompanies the building process is a significant cost-saving element in the construction of these homes.

The prebuilt housing is then put on a truck and shipped to your lot. When you receive it, you’ll find everything you need to complete your home included. Because the entire design is so established, there are no surprises where having all the various elements that will make up the completed house are concerned. Details such as these make this type of housing more desirable all the time among homeowners. Where constructing your own house is usually an affair full of surprises, many of them unpleasant, prefab housing doesn’t have these disadvantages. This helps keep costs under control, from the construction at the factory to the final erecting of the house at your lot and for many years to come.

Can I Get Attractive Homes Prefabricated?

Sunday, August 1st, 2010

Prefabricated homes used to be a term that, unfortunately, referred to mostly one type of home. Over the years, however, the fact that constructing homes in controlled, factory environments is enormously efficient has led to the creation of many new designs. There is definitely more than one type of person that is interested in these homes. Prefabricated housing offers enough advantages, both financial and design-wise, that it was inevitable that the process would eventually be extended to a host of different designs with features suitable for a wide variety of buyers.

Not all people want homes prefabricated in designs that are suitable for city living. To that end, the better companies started making homes in designs for those who prefer a more rustic lifestyle. Cabins can be purchased prefabricated and make one of the most exciting types of homes. The traditional look of this housing is enhanced by the use of modern building materials and techniques, resulting in a home that is the best of both worlds. These make excellent vacation and second homes, as well, and the prices make them practical choices for those looking for such a residence.

Buying homes prefabricated doesn’t mean buying small. There are very large, two-story designs available, as well. These feature stately architecture that is also very efficient. For larger families, these are natural choices. The most traditional choice is the ranch home. This classic design has been much improved over the years and offers a mix of coziness and practicality that makes it very popular with new homeowners, or for those who want a home that’s constructed in a way that ensures quality. Any one of these designs can be purchased very affordably, increasing their appeal to a broad segment of homebuyers who encompass diverse tastes.

The Advent of the Modern Pre Fab House

Friday, July 9th, 2010

One upon a time, the prefab house meant little more than a mobile home, or what is still referred to as a “trailer.”  However, things have changed with time.  Today, the pre fab house is something very different.  What has changed in the industry?  How are prefabricated homes different today?

You might think of prefabricated homes as referring to manufactured housing.  These are regular homes, but they are built in a factory and shipped to your lot in pieces.  You might have seen some of these pieces being moved down the highway at one point or another.  However, this is far from the only meaning of prefabricated housing.

Currently, one of the better options if you want to find out what a pre fab house might offer you is to work with a company that manufactures prefabricated housing kits.  These kits can be found in almost any type of design, including cabins, cottages and “regular” homes.  Why are kits the best way to go, though?

First, kits are very different from the aforementioned prefabricated homes.  The kit arrives at your lot in sections, rather than as fully constructed pieces of the home.  This allows you to easily build the home on your own, or with the help of a contractor.  In addition, because the home arrives in sections (wall sections, flooring sections, etc), you are able to reduce the time required for construction.

A pre fab house can be an excellent option, particularly if you want a custom home, and have a DIY frame of mind.  However, they can also be excellent options for those who just want to get their home constructed through an environmentally sound method, with as little time wasted as possible.  Prefabrication might just be the best option for your needs.

Pre Fab House Options for the Country

Friday, May 28th, 2010

Rural areas are always a challenge for builders. Pre fab house options can eliminate many of these challenges. To understand what makes construction in a rural area difficult, first understand that suppliers may be many miles away. Unless you measure perfectly, cut with computer precision and never make an error in logistics, you’re going to be making unexpected trips to the lumberyard to pick up more supplies. When you’re on the clock and need to get the project up fast, this can mean a lot of headaches and, in many cases, quite a lot of wasted money.

A pre fab house doesn’t mean that you get the same house that a hundred other people have. In fact, oftentimes, the people that order these homes order only those elements that are the most difficult to construct. The rough framing components, for example, are oftentimes ordered and that allows the homebuilder to get the basic structure erected quickly. This ease and speed of initial construction helps later on in the process, and can cut costs in significant ways.

Once the rough framing of the pre fab house is constructed, it’s very easy to work on the interior elements of the home. The structure can be temporarily protected from the elements. This allows subcontractors to start working on the interior elements of your home without regard to the weather. It also allows you to avoid having to preplan every element of your home’s design. You will not, for instance, have to worry about the amount of supplies you need to order, nor will you have to deal with the expenses of ordering too much or the hassles of ordering too little. The rough elements are prefabricated for you, so you don’t have to worry about it at all.
